CEO’s Annual Letter:

Dear Supporters and Stakeholders,

As we reflect on the past year, we at Real Health Uganda (RHU) are filled with gratitude for the unwavering support and dedication of our team, partners, and donors. Despite the numerous challenges we faced, including financial constraints, public health crises, and logistical hurdles, our commitment to improving healthcare access and promoting community well-being remained steadfast.

In 2023, RHU continued to navigate through unprecedented times, with a focus on addressing the far-reaching effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, strengthening healthcare systems, and fostering resilience in communities across Uganda. Through innovative approaches, strategic partnerships, and tireless efforts, we made significant strides in our mission to build a healthier, more resilient Uganda.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to our core values of compassion, integrity, and excellence, and we are optimistic about the opportunities that lie ahead. Together, we can overcome any obstacle and continue to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those we serve.

Year in Review:

Care and Support:

In 2023, Real Health Uganda continued to prioritize healthcare treatment and clinical services, despite facing challenges such as financial constraints and public health crises. Our efforts focused on providing essential medical services to vulnerable communities, addressing healthcare disparities, and promoting community well-being.

Key highlights under Care and Support include:

  • Engaging 16971 patients across nineteen facilities, with a focus on pediatric treatment for malaria and other prevalent diseases.
  • Providing free direct medical services to 2765 patients, particularly targeting vulnerable populations.
  • Delivering mental health services without additional support, recognizing the growing need for mental health support in communities.
  • Conducting community outreach activities and engaging rural leaders to promote health education and awareness.

Despite challenges, RHU remained dedicated to providing quality care and support to those in need, demonstrating resilience and compassion in the face of adversity.

Supplies and Support:

Real Health Uganda’s commitment to supporting healthcare initiatives and addressing the needs of underserved communities was reflected in our efforts to provide medical supplies, donations, and social services. Despite financial constraints, we prioritized the procurement and distribution of essential medicines and supplies to healthcare facilities in need.

Key highlights under Supplies and Support include:

  • Procuring and distributing essential medicines and supplies to 19 network hospitals and facilities.
  • Supporting facilities with critical healthcare challenges, particularly in the areas of sexual reproductive health, malaria, HIV, and maternal health.
  • Initiating plans for a mental health program to address increasing mental health challenges in communities.
  • Collaborating with orphanages and community health centers to ensure access to medical supplies and services.

Real Health Uganda’s commitment to transparency and accountability in fund management ensured effective resource utilization and strategic planning, despite resource constraints.

Information and Education:

In 2023, Real Health Uganda continued to focus on capacity building and dialogue in communities, rural leaders, healthcare workers, and clinicians. Our efforts aimed to empower communities with knowledge and skills to improve health outcomes and promote sustainable development.

Key highlights under Information and Education include:

  • Conducting capacity-building initiatives and community engagement programs to address issues such as teenage pregnancies, mental health disorders, and healthcare system deficiencies.
  • Providing technical, clinical, and financial assistance to health facilities and patients, with a focus on targeted healthcare support.
  • Prioritizing interventions to combat the surge in teenage pregnancies and mental health challenges through education and awareness campaigns.
  • Conducting mini-medical orientations, surgical procedures, and other outreach activities to deliver essential healthcare services to vulnerable communities.

Despite challenges, Real Health Uganda remained committed to promoting health education and awareness, fostering dialogue and collaboration, and empowering communities to lead healthier, more resilient lives.
