Our Maternal Mortality rate stands at 368 deaths per 100,000 as of 2021, and in 2020, child mortality rate for Uganda was 43.3 deaths per 1,000 live births. Approximately 200,000 children under the age of five die from illnesses such as diarrhoea, pneumonia, and malaria, which are largely preventable or treatable, and from diseases that could be eliminated through the administration of timely vaccines.
Real Health Uganda continues to work with community groups, local facilities and local governments to extend maternal and child health services as a basic right for women and girls.
There is an increase of teenage pregnancies in the entire country but worse in Eastern Uganda and even more aggressive in Luuka District. Our Kirimwa A Office in Luuka district estimates that 4 out of every 10 teenage girls in Luuka is pregnant with her first child.
We are working with other community actors to Improve the capacity of our community volunteers (including Village Health team Members) on Basic Emergency Obstetric Care to improve logistical and guided support information to the young mothers, and create coordinated relationships with accessible health facilities that can provide quality obstetric care to the young girls
